SouthEast Bank awards scholarships to UTC students

SouthEast Bank and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announce that five students have been selected to receive the SouthEast Bank Scholar award for the 2013-2014 academic year. This scholarship will provide Olivia Simmons, Jennifer Lopez, Kelsey Stansell, Danielle Ducheny, and Joshua Seaton with $5,000 annually to offset the cost of tuition and assist in accomplishing academic and personal goals.

Recipients of the SouthEast Bank Scholars include a prestigious group of incoming students from Tennessee chosen by participating post-secondary institutions for their exceptional character and academic commitment. In addition to meeting the minimum criteria of achieving a 3.25 high school grade point average or a 23 ACT score, students who are awarded this distinct honor have also demonstrated financial need and community involvement.

About the Doctor of Nursing Science Degree

The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program is a clinical doctoral program for advanced practice registered nurses, such as nurse practitioners (NPs) or clinical nurse specialists(CNSs) who are looking to further their education. An alternative to researched-focused doctoral programs, the DNP builds upon a traditional master's program by providing education in evidence-based practice, quality improvement and systems leadership, in addition to other key areas. Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration, Advanced Education Nursing Grant, the DNP program prepares nurse leaders to become clinical scholars, health care and policy leaders and evidence-based practice experts, as well as informatics and quality improvement leaders.

Residency requirements: Due to federal regulations from the Department of Education, the College of Nursing currently accepts applications for its online master's and doctoral degree programs from residents of the following states: Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Continuing Undergraduates and Transfer Students Financial Aid

To be considered for general university and academic college scholarships, you must complete the Continuing and Transfer Student Undergraduate Scholarship Application. It's available on , look under UTK Financial Aid Links and select the Financial Aid Main Menu. Continuing students have a February 1 application deadlineTransfer students have a deadline of April 1.

If you plan to transfer to UT in the middle of the academic year, here are some important things you should do:

• Tell your current school's financial aid office that you plan to transfer so they can cancel your aid for the rest of the year. By doing this, there should not be any delays when UT begins to process your aid.


• If you didn't list UT on your financial aid form as one of the institutions to receive your information, we need a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR), or you may let us know your DRN located on the top, right corner of your SAR, and the latest transaction # of the SAR which is located just before the DRN. This allows us to access your financial aid form data from the Department of Education's database.


• If you're a recipient of the Tennessee Student Assistance Award, HOPE Scholarship and/or other funds from the Tennessee Lottery, you must call the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC), to inform them of your plans so your state grant and/or scholarship(s) can be awarded at UT. TSAC's phone numbers are: 800-342-1663 and 615-741-1346.
