"A Survivor's True Tale of Rape and Recovery"

Donoval was a 19-year-old college student when she went out for a night of fun and drinking and was raped by a trusted classmate. The presentation, titled "The Road to Shameless: A Survivor's True Tale of Rape and Recovery," tells Donoval's own experience as a survivor of sexual assault and how she found a voice to speak about it. Witty and compassionate, "The Road to Shameless" speaks the unspeakable with humor and grace, making a painful topic not only bearable, but also, in the words of one audience member, "an experience of exhilarating liberation."

"I am a storyteller by trade, so I speak at colleges to put a human face on what day-to-day life is like for a survivor" said Donoval.

Donoval brings 25 years of experience as a professional storyteller, speaker and theater artist to her work as a sexual violence educator and activist. She is the founder of Stories 2 Stop Rape, providing sexual violence awareness and prevention performances, keynotes and seminars to colleges and universities. Donoval combines her experience as a survivor with her skills as a storyteller to actively engage students - men and women - in talking honestly about sexual violence in order to reduce the stigma of rape, inspire hope in survivors and their loved ones and motivate change in campus culture.

Donoval recently received an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to study the use of digital storytelling in working with sexual assault survivors, their loved ones and the community at large.

She received her bachelor's degree in speech from Marquette University, Milwaukee, and her master of fine arts in theatre from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. Donoval is an associate member of the Association for Fraternity/Sorority Advisors and teaches beginning and advance storytelling courses at Metropolitan State University, Minneapolis.

Tuition

The tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year is $15,040 per quarter for Full Tuition (first eight quarters of residency) and $3,760 per quarter for Advanced Study (study in the 9th quarter or later).

This Full Tuition rate is applied for the first eight quarters of the student's residency. Because clinical psychology graduate students typically take courses only during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters, this means that the Full Tuition rate generally applies to all three quarters of the first and second year of residency, as well as the Fall and Winter quarters of the third year of residency. In the Spring quarter of the third year of residency, most students pay the Advanced Study rate.

Students who no longer need to register for courses and are not receiving a formal scholarship or stipend register for Continuous Registration, which is $100 per quarter.

Scholarships

All students admitted to the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences receive a graduate scholarship that provides 50 percent tuition remission. Students also receive fully subsidized University health insurance for the first three years of residency.

Specific research labs may provide additional funding to students in their lab, depending on the availability of grant funding. Funded research labs may provide a Research Assistant Scholarship (RAS), which provides full (100 percent) coverage of tuition and a monthly stipend ($1,927 per month for the 2013-2014 academic year). Students and faculty are also encouraged to apply for external funding, such as NIH training grants. Students from underrepresented minority groups may be eligible for additional scholarships and tuition remission, depending on availability.

The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program does not provide funded Teaching Assistantships.

Travel Grants

All students in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program qualify for travel grants to present research at academic conferences. These travels grants are provided by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and The Graduate School.
