Scholarship Memorializes Former Math Faculty Member

The Lloyd F. Woodling Memorial Scholarship has been established at Pennsylvania College of Technology to honor the memory of the father of faculty member Todd S. Woodling.

Todd Woodling, assistant professor of building automation technologies/HVAC electrical, and his mother, Mary Alice, started the scholarship to honor Lloyd Woodling, who taught mathematics for three and a half decades - 12 years in the Loyalsock Township School District and 23 years at Penn College (and its predecessor, Williamsport Area Community College) as an associate professor of mathematics.

The annual scholarship will focus on full-time students in their senior year who are enrolled in the building automation technology bachelor-degree major with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.

"In working with students, I know the financial challenges they and their families face to earn a Penn College degree," Todd Woodling said. "I am pleased that we can offer this support to building automation students."

"I think this is a wonderful way to remember Lloyd and honor his time and commitment to Penn College students," added Mary Alice Woodling.

"We're extremely grateful to Todd and Mary Alice for participating in the Penn College Scholarship Campaign," said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "With 35 years as an educator, Lloyd Woodling touched the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of young people. Alumni Couple Employed at Penn College Establishes Scholarship

A married couple who are both alumni and employees of Pennsylvania College of Technology recently created a scholarship benefiting students from Clinton County.

The Ron and Tina Miller Scholarship will benefit Clinton County residents who are enrolled full time in a bachelor-degree major at Penn College. The scholarship also focuses on financial need.

Ron Miller, director of computing and audio/visual services, and Tina Miller, director of marketing communications, are both graduates of the institution. Ron graduated in 1989 with a degree in computer information systems and has worked at the college since 1990. Tina earned a degree in technology management in 2003 and has been employed at the college since 1996.

The first award from the scholarship, which was established as part of the Penn College Scholarship Campaign, will be made in Fall 2013.

"Penn College has been very kind to us," Tina Miller said. "Establishing a scholarship is our way to show our appreciation to the college while supporting students from our community."

"Ron and Tina have such a rich history with the college, it is fitting that there now is a scholarship in their name," said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "Their appreciation for all that they have received from the college and their willingness to 'pay it forward' so that others can have the opportunities they have had is an example for us all."

Faculty Couple Creates Scholarship at Penn College

As part of the Penn College Scholarship Campaign, Kenneth C. Kuhns, assistant professor of electrical technologies/occupations, and Diana L. Kuhns, assistant professor of mathematics, have established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Ken and Diana Kuhns Scholarship will make annual awards of $1,000 until it is fully endowed, at which time it will provide annual awards of $1,000 or more in perpetuity.

The scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in any major as a full-time student, have graduated from Littlestown Area School District or Delone Catholic High School in Adams County, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have successfully completed two or more semesters of study. Secondary preference will be given to students who are graduates of Hughesville High School.

"Ken and Diana have positively impacted the lives of countless students during their distinguished careers at Penn College," said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "This scholarship ensures that their legacy of assisting others pursuing an education will live on forever. We're extremely grateful for their service and their generosity."

"As a student at WACC in the late '70s, thanks to the GI Bill and grants, I found an opportunity to better myself by earning a degree that opened many doors for me over the course of my career both here and elsewhere," Ken Kuhns said. "It gives me great pleasure to set up a scholarship so that others may benefit from such an education."

"Penn College has afforded us countless opportunities that promoted both our personal and professional development during our tenure here," said Diana Kuhns. "Additionally, neither Ken nor I would have been able to attend college if it weren't for grants and scholarships. By establishing this scholarship, we believe that we are 'giving back,' as well as providing students with an opportunity to experience the benefits of a Penn College education."

The Penn College Scholarship Campaign is an initiative to raise at least $3.75 million for scholarships in conjunction with the college's Centennial Celebration in 2014.
