Win up to a $5,000 scholarship for the spring semester

It's that time of the year again! As they have for multiple semesters, the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum is thrilled to announce that they will once again be offering a scholarship for up to $5,000 for the Spring 2014 semester. Not only can students get a generous scholarship, but they're given the opportunity to network with the biggest CIOs in the country.

The qualifications are as follows:

• 3.6 GPA or higher


• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status


• Must be attending full-time (12.0 credit hours/semester or more)


• Completed one full year at TU


• Open to Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or E-Business majors whose future goals are related to gaining a position in the field of Information Technology

Welcome

The Division of Natural and Physical Sciences carries out the mission of Philander Smith College by working on graduating academically accomplished students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, who are aware of their social and ethical responsibilities equipped with knowledge on how to change their communities, the nation and the world for the better.

Mission

The mission of the Division of Natural and Physical Sciences is three-fold:

-To provide an inspiring learning atmosphere through student-oriented pedagogical approaches, experienced faculty and high-quality undergraduate progra ms

-To produce not only versatile students who are capable of meeting challenges in advanced study and professional career, but also who are aware of their social and ethical responsibilities

-To provide service to both the relevant STEM professions and public of the State of Arkansas

The Division of Natur al and Physical Sciences offers degree programs in General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering. The Division opens the door for students to pursue careers in dentistry, medical technology, nursing or pharmacy by majoring in biology following the suggested curricular and sequence for the careers. In addition, we offer students a number of avenues that help them to navigate through rigorous course work:

- Historically Black College and Universities - Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) - Supported through the National Science Foundation (NSF), HBCU-UP provides opportunities to High School Students, entering Freshman Students, and students in the STEM.
"LITTLE ROCK, AR (Oct. 16, 2012) --- Philander Smith College's Division of Natural and Physical Sciences received a $1.75 million grant from the National Science Foundation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities - Undergraduate Program. The program aims to increase the number of minorities graduating from an Historically Black Black Colleges and Universities with degrees centered on careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Philander Smith College received the first phase of this project's funding in 2006 with an allocated amount of $3 million. That funding phase expires in February 2013. The second phase of the project's $1.75 million grant extends from Oct. 1, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2017."

4+1 COPH Program - the 4+1 Program is an articulation agreement with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The program allows students at PSC to complete courses toward a Master of Science in Public Health.
