The Southern Virginia University Women's Society held a luncheon today at which Elizabeth Braddy announced the recipients of two scholarships funded by the society. Mari Takogawa, a political science major from Japan, and Zobia Zafar, a biology major on the pre-med track from Pakistan, each received a $400 scholarship.
Takogawa, who will graduate in December, expressed gratitude for the scholarship and for the education that she has been able to receive at Southern Virginia. Zafar, a junior, said that after graduating, she hopes to use what she has learned at Southern Virginia to serve the citizens of "third world countries."
After the scholarship recipients spoke, Lynne Sybrowsky, wife of Southern Virginia President Paul K. Sybrowsky, gave an inspiring address. Sister Sybrowsky focused her remarks on 2 Kings 4, in which a widow is blessed to be able to support her family after a miraculous event. At the end of her address, she thanked those assembled for their service, kindness and dedication. I was grateful to be able to attend the luncheon and learn a little more about Sister Sybrowsky, who was born in England, raised in Canada, and has since traveled across the world with her husband.
Sister Sybrowsky will speak again at tomorrow's devotional. I hope that you'll come hear what she has to say - she's a sincere, faithful individual with a lot to share.
