The CSC extends a warm welcome to Dr. Valentina Bartolucci. She is a Fulbright Research Scholar resident here during the 2013-2014 academic year, studying public diplomacy as anti-terrorism. Dr. Bartolucci is an Associate Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Science for Peace (Pisa), a Lecturer at the University of Pisa, Italy, and at the Marist college campus of Florence, Italy. Dr. Bartolucci is also a Visiting Fellow at the University of Derby (UK) and she maintains a close connection with the School for Social and International Studies at the University of Bradford (UK). Dr. Bartolucci has a degree in Peace Studies from the University of Pisa, a MA in Conflict Management and Human Rights from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, and a Ph.D from the University of Bradford. She previously worked as a Junior Technical Expert for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Morocco, and as a consultant for various international organizations (in Italy, Burkina-Faso and India). Dr. Bartolucci is a consultant on issues linked to terrorism, organized crime, migration, American and Middle Eastern foreign policies for various national and international organizations as well as governmental departments around Europe. In recognition of her impact internationally, she has been recently made a Member of the Aspen Institute (group 'I protagonisti italiani nel mondo'). In 2011, she was nominated for the Who's Who Academic excellence. Apart from her doctoral thesis on the governmental discourse on terrorism, Dr. Bartolucci has written numerous articles in the fields of politics, critical discourse analysis, security and surveillance. Her research mainly addresses the foreign and security policies of U.S. and other States, terrorism and counter-terrorism, discourses on threat and emergency and strategic communication as anti-terrorism.
