Award of High Distinction Scholarship Competition for Fall 2013


The University Honors Program and the Office of Admissions will host a scholarship competition for incoming freshmen. The Award of High Distinction Scholarship is a full-fee scholarship ($10,377 value)* and is renewable.


To apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:



  • Incoming freshman student for fall 2013

  • 3.8 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale

  • 30 ACT composite or 1300 SAT (critical reading plus math)

  • Application for admission and credentials on file with the Office of Admissions by December 3, 2012

  • Application to the University Honors Program on file by December 3, 2012

Applications will be reviewed after December 3 and selected students will be invited to interview on campus late January. More information is available.


* Value based on 2012-13 academic year general and instructional fees. This scholarship is renewable for three continuous academic years or six semesters if the renewal criteria are met. Transfer students are not eligible for this award. This scholarship will replace any University Academic Scholarship of a lower value awarded by the Office of Admissions.


University Tuition Scholarship for Underrepresented Students


This is a $3,500 scholarship renewable for four years. Based on financial need, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale and 20 ACT composite or 900 SAT (critical reading plus math) scores, race/ethnicity, location and commitment to diversity. This scholarship is renewable if all criteria are met. Separate application due by June 30, 2013.

The Honors Experience Scholarship


This is a $4,000 award for incoming freshmen in the Honors Program, payable over four years ($1,000 per year). Eligible students must apply to BGSU and the University Honors Program by March 1, 2013 to be considered for the award. Factors that might be taken into account are financial need, unique experiences, diverse backgrounds, in addition to the Honors Application and Essay. This scholarship can be combined with the University Freshman Academic Scholarship.


Alumni Laureate Scholarship Program


This scholarship currently covers the cost of any educational expense up to the cost of tuition, is renewable for four years and includes a $1,000 book award. A separate scholarship application is required and the deadline to apply is December 3, 2012. More information is available.


President's Leadership Academy (PLA)


The President's Leadership Academy is a four-year leadership development program that prepares students to lead with integrity and make meaningful contributions to society. Awardees receive a renewable scholarship up to full fees. A separate scholarship application is required and the deadline is December 3, 2012. More information is available.


Alumni Association Scholarships


BGSU Alumni Association scholarships are typically valued at $1,000 and are available to incoming and continuing students. Students do not need to be legacies (having a parent that attended) to be eligible for the awards. Specific eligibility criteria vary for each award. International Baccalaureate Excellence Scholarship


Incoming fall freshmen on track to earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma can qualify to receive the renewable $3,000 International Baccalaureate Excellence Scholarship. Students must have a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale and provide documentation indicating they are on track to earn the IB diploma. Final official IB transcripts must be submitted to confirm the Diploma was awarded. This scholarship is renewable if all criteria are met.


Wood and Lucas County Book Loan Scholarship Program


Incoming freshman from Wood or Lucas County may apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of books for your freshman year. To qualify, you must be an admitted freshman and live in Wood or Lucas County. The scholarship application and FAFSA must be completed by March 31, 2013. More information is available.
