The following scholarships are available to students based on academic merit. Students who satisfy the respective criteria will be considered upon admission to the University. The awarding of these scholarships is made by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and is subject to the availability of remaining funds. This is a tiered scholarship program, with the most prestigious of the scholarships listed first. Students are only eligible to receive one of these four academic scholarships, not a combination of them.

Academic scholarships are renewable as long as certain criteria are met: Renewal Criteria


Out of State Award offered through the University

President's Scholarship


  • Graduating high school senior


  • EITHER rank first or second in graduating class & a minimum 24 ACT composite score


  • OR 3.7 or higher cumulative high school GPA & a minimum 28 ACT composite score

  • Scholarship covers tuition and selective mandatory fees up to 136 credit hours

  • This is a competitive scholarship

Founder's Scholarship


  • Graduating high school senior (beginning with new admits for Fall 2014)

  • 3.6 or higher cumulative high school GPA & a minimum 26 ACT composite score

  • Scholarship covers half (50%) of tuition and selective mandatory fees up to 136 credit hours

  • This is a competitive scholarship

Dean's Scholarship


  • Graduating high school senior

  • $3,000 per year for four years

  • 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA & a minimum 24 ACT composite score

  • This is a competitive scholarship

Cardinal Scholarship


  • Graduating high school senior

  • $2,000 per year for four years

  • 3.0 or higher cumulative high school GPA & a minimum 22 ACT composite score

  • This is a competitive scholarship

SV Red & White Award


  • This award allows new students to pay in-state tuition rates and applies to fall, winter and spring/summer semesters.

  • Entering freshmen who are not Michigan residents and who are United States Citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible for this award, provided they have a minimum 3.00 cumulative high school GPA and 21 ACT composite score or 980 SAT score.

  • Entering transfer students who are not Michigan residents and who are United States Citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible for this award, provided they meet the university's regular transfer admission requirements.

  • Citizens or Landed Immigrants of Canada and Mexico also qualify, provided they meet the university's regular admission requirements for these populations.

  • Awarded to all who meet criteria listed above. No formal application is required.

  • This award covers all undergraduate, undergraduate professional and graduate level courses.

  • Second Bachelor's Degree, Graduate, and Teacher Certification students are eligible for this award - provided they meet the residency requirements listed above and meet all minimum admission requirements for each respective program. ESL students may qualify provided they are from Canada or Mexico.
