Message from President Leo M. Lambert

Elon's high-impact educational experience

Elon University's talented faculty are committed to creating high-impact learning experiences in the classroom and beyond. That commitment includes serving as intellectual role models for students, producing important scholarship and creative works and participating in professional activities as leaders in the academy.

I invite you to learn more about the impressive scholarship and impact of the work produced this year by Elon faculty in our annual President's Report. For example, they examined the struggles facing young people born with HIV who are reaching adulthood; they scoured 19th century church records to learn more about how Sunday morning became "the most segregated hour"; they studied the benefits of including leadership training as part of the curriculum in law schools; and they investigated smartphone security practices and data protection.

The President's Report also highlights many important milestones in Elon's development in 2012-13:

  • Three key projects in Elon's $100 million transformation of the residential campus
    • Opening of The Station at Mill Point, a townhouse-style residential neighborhood for juniors and seniors

    • Opening of the international-themed Lakeside Dining Hall

    • Opening of the first two residence halls in the six-building Global Neighborhood

  • Opening of the Numen Lumen Pavilion, a groundbreaking interfaith center that completes Elon's Academic Village; the building's dedication featured a major convocation led by CBS "60 Minutes" correspondent Lara Logan and six distinguished panelists from diverse faith backgrounds

  • The launch of a physician assistant studies master's program in Elon's School of Health Sciences

  • The announcement that Elon will join the Colonial Athletic Association for the 2014-15 academic year, providing stronger connections to Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern areas that are the home to thousands of Elon alumni and students

Those are just a few examples of the progress we are making as we address the goals of the Elon Commitment strategic plan. I hope you enjoy reading about the important work of the faculty, who make Elon such a dynamic and vibrant intellectual community.

Leo M. Lambert
President
