James Madison University - Visiting Fulbright Scholars

Visiting Fulbright Scholars

Encouraging and supporting visiting Fulbright Scholars from other countries to give guest lectures is a way to enhance the overall academic climate at JMU. Visiting lecturers can internationalize faculty and student perspectives, classrooms and departments in short two to three day visits.
The Occasional Lecturing Fund enables Visiting Scholars from other countries to come to JMU to:

  • Share their specific research interests;

  • Speak on the history and culture of their countries;

  • Exchange ideas with U.S. students, faculty and community organizations;

  • Become better acquainted with U.S. higher education; and

  • Create linkages between their home and host institutions.

Members of the JMU academic community reach out to Visiting Lecturers who, in turn, apply for a travel award to the Fulbright Program to visit our campus. JMU provides local transportation, lodging, and meals. Visit the Occasional Lecturer Fund website for more details about how the program works and for a detailed list of current Visiting Fulbright Lecturers in the United States. Contact David Owusu-Ansah in the Office of Diversity for guidance and advice.
