Continuing Education Helps Students Sharpen Computer Skills

September 6, 2013 – The jobs report released by the U.S. Department of Labor today continues to underscore the fact that people who keep their job skills up-to-date do best in a job market that is improving slowly but remains fiercely competitive.
Manchester Community College's Continuing Education Division offers computer technology education and training through its Credit-Free Programs. These courses are designed to give both incumbent workers and people looking for a job the basic and advanced skills that will help them achieve their career goals.
New courses include Windows 8 Introduction on Thursday, October 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. (refer to CRN 31904 to register); Network Concepts, which runs two consecutive Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m., starting October 28 (refer to CRN 31888 for registration); and Network Administration, running two consecutive Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m., starting November 18 (refer to CRN 31889).
MCC is also offering a new exam preparation course for Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSPs). This course runs for five days beginning Monday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, October 25 (refer to CRN 31624 for registration). Other new exam preparation courses include one for the A+ Certification 220-801 Exam, which runs four consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., starting October 5 (refer to CRN 31864 for registration); and a course to prepare for the A+ Certification 220-802 Exam, which runs five Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning November 2 through December 7 (the class does not meet November 30; refer to CRN 31920 for registration).
Additional courses in word processing, spreadsheets, database management, internet and networking, and multimedia are offered by MCC Credit-Free Programs. Courses start throughout the Fall 2013 semester and there is still time to register for most of them.
In addition to gaining valuable computer skills and certification exam preparation, taking these courses through MCC means students have access to hands-on experts in the field for instruction, as well as the added benefit of an official college transcript that serves as a record of their education.
